University of Minnesota staff and faculty have a wide variety of transportation options available to them including parking, transit, and active mobility.
Parking
What parking contract options are available to staff and faculty?
- Parking contracts: Parking contracts are available to University of Minnesota faculty and staff who work a minimum of 75% time. Parking contracts are loaded on your U Card and give you 24/7 access to your designated facility. Contract payments are payroll deducted on a pre-tax basis on either a 12-month or 9-month schedule.
- Quarterly-billed contracts: Quarterly-billed contracts are available to faculty & staff not eligible for payroll-deducted contracts and graduate student professional workers with a 95xx pay code.
- Part-Time Parking: Part-Time Parking (PTP) provides a reduced-cost public parking option for those who need campus parking a maximum of 1–2 times per week. The program provides an unlimited number of entries and exits in a 24-hour period from the first entry on a space-available basis.
Transit
On campus
All campus busses are free, accessible, and equipped with bike racks.
Off Campus
All Twin Cities benefits-eligible faculty and staff can receive unlimited access to all transit systems in the Twin Cities metro area with the Employee Transit Pass (ETP).
Employees with 75-100% appointments will receive the ETP at no additional cost. Employees with 50-74% appointments who are eligible for benefits but no contributions from the University may opt-in at their cost via a pretax payroll deduction.
Several bus lines operate in the Twin Cities metro, and many have direct routes to the U.
Additionally, the METRO Green Line travels down Washington Avenue through the heart of the East Bank campus. The METRO Blue Line offers individuals quick and easy access to key destinations like the airport and the Mall of America. The Northstar Commuter Rail also provides convenience for those from the northwest corner of the suburbs.
Metro Mobility is also available for certified riders who cannot use regular fixed-route buses due to a disability or health condition.
