Vehicle Safety

While no vehicle is completely theft-proof, there are ways to prevent it.

Car key fob

Lock and double check

Always lock your vehicle and double-check all doors and windows before leaving. Even if you're just stepping away for a short time, an unlocked car can be an easy target.

Purse

Hide valuables

Keep any valuables out of sight. Store items like laptops, bags, and electronics in the trunk or take them with you. Visible valuables can attract thieves.

Street light

Stay aware

Be mindful of your surroundings when parking and exiting your vehicle. Report any suspicious activity to the University of Minnesota Police Department immediately.

If you are parking on the street, choose well-lit, busy areas to park your vehicle. Parking near entrances, exits, or security cameras can deter potential thieves. View a map of all campus lighting and emergency phones.

Don't forget the speed limit

Safety is a shared responsibility. Please observe a 10 mph speed limit in all University parking facilities.
