Theft Prevention

While no bike is completely theft-proof, there are ways to protect it.

Bike Center

The University of Minnesota Bike Center is here for your biking needs. Whether it be repair, maintenance, or parts and accessories; the Bike Center has your back.

Commercial Bike Sharing

Shared bikes are a great alternative for those short trips to, from and around campus. Check out the companies available on campus and register with them to use their services.

Helmets and Headlights

Get set for campus riding with buy-one-get-one 30% off all bike supplies at Boynton Health Pharmacy!

Boynton offers bike helmets, lights, and U-Locks for all University students, staff, and faculty to help bikers ride safely.

Minnesota statute requires all cyclists illuminate their bikes after dark. A white front light must be visible from a distance of 500 feet with a red reflector on the rear.

Bike Lockers and Shelters

Bike lockers and sheltered bike parking are available for University students, staff, and faculty on campus.

  • Contracts run from October 1–September 30.
  • Contracts include access to the U of M Bike Center at Oak Street Ramp that has showers, restrooms, changing facilities and lockers.
  • Contracts can be purchased at any time throughout the year and automatically renew.
  • Contact us with questions.

ZAP Rewards Program

The ZAP bike commuter program is a biking incentive program. Student participants receive gift cards and employees earn health insurance premium reductions just for riding their bikes.

Gopher Bikes Program

The Gopher Bikes Program is here to help you get around campus.

Bicycle assignments are based on a lottery, and availability is determined by the size of the fleet. Bikes are available to currently enrolled students—excluding PSEO students—who live off campus and within five miles of the University.

The rental period ends on the last day of instruction for the semester or summer term. Study and final exam days are not included unless prearranged.

Daily rentals are available in all campus residence halls, except for Keeler Hall and Radius.
