19th Avenue Parking Ramp Access Closed at Riverside

Beginning on November 22, 2022 (weather-dependent), Parking & Transportation Services (PTS) will close the Riverside vehicle entrance and all southern pedestrian access points to enter the 19th Avenue Ramp as a pilot project.

WHAT THIS MEANS

  • The Riverside vehicle entrance opening will be closed off completely.
  • The driveway adjacent to Riverside Avenue will be closed.
  • The stairwell doors will be locked from the outside but will still be available for pedestrians to exit from the ramp.

PTS asks that all drivers use the vehicle lanes on 3rd Street South to access the 19th Avenue Ramp. 3rd Street South is a one way street and only accessed from Cedar Avenue. Please drive carefully and be aware of pedestrians.

All pedestrians must use the main lobby in the northeast corner to enter the parking ramp. It is also recommended to use the skyway from the Carlson School (U Card access required).

See West Bank campus map.

WHY WE ARE DOING THIS

The goal of this pilot is to reduce crime in the ramp. If the pilot is successful, PTS would close this vehicle entrance permanently. PTS is working on providing card reader access to the southeast stairwell for University-affiliated customers as soon as possible. Evaluation will include a customer feedback survey to be distributed in April 2023.

Additionally, PTS has been working with University Security to provide increased security patrols in parking facilities where incidents have been occurring.
