Campus Rules
- Never ride on campus sidewalks (unless designated as a bike lane with pavement markings).
- Obey all traffic signs, signals, and laws.
- Yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and areas where bike paths cross pedestrian walkways.
- Most campus bike lanes are one-way only. Bikers must ride in the direction of traffic.
- Watch for designated areas to dismount and walk your bike.
- Always lock your bike (follow theft prevention tips).
- Don’t lock bikes to handrails, trees, fences, bus shelters or anything other than bike racks. Illegally parked bikes are subject to tag and removal. To reclaim your bike, contact the PTS office.
- Headlights and reflectors are required by Minnesota law for night riding.

Walk Your Bike on Campus Sidewalks
Sidewalks are paved for walkers, not bicyclists. It is dangerous to ride through a busy sidewalk. Feel free to walk your bike on any sidewalk around campus and use bike lanes when riding your bike.
This is a Minnesota State law, not just a University rule. "No person shall ride a bicycle upon a sidewalk within a business district ..." The University of Minnesota Police will write out citations for bicyclists riding on the sidewalks, so be aware.
