Hennepin County’s Fourth Street improvement project is in full swing on the East Bank. Here are some important lane reductions and closures to be aware of:
Reductions
4th Street reduced to one lane between 17th Avenue and I-35W
4th Street is reduced to one lane between 17th Avenue and I-35W. Traffic is shifted to the south side of 4th Street while crews work along the north side of the street throughout the project area.
- Expect delays when traveling in the construction area.
- Plan an alternative route or allow extra time.
- People walking and biking will be provided with a detour around the work area.
Intersection work at 13th Avenue SE
The southbound lane of 13th Avenue SE is closed between 5th Street and 4th Street.
- Follow the detour using 12th Avenue SE. T
- here is no access to/from 13th Avenue SE on the south side of the intersection.
- Vehicles are still able to turn right from 4th Street to 13th Avenue SE.
Intersection work 10th Avenue SE
- No access to/from 4th Street and 10th Avenue SE on the north side of the intersection.
- Follow the detour using 11th Avenue SE.
- The south side of the intersection is not affected.
Closures
Work at 15th Avenue SE
Beginning Monday, July 22, 15th Avenue SE will be fully closed between University Avenue and 4th Street.
- Since 5th Street is closed for intersection improvements at 15th Avenue, no turns will be allowed at 4th Street and 15th Avenue SE.
- Metro Transit Route 3 will detour north through campus on East River Road and stop nearside of University Avenue. View other Metro Transit alerts
4th Street closed between Oak Street and 17th Avenue
Beginning Monday, July 29, 4th Street will be closed to all traffic between Oak Street and 17th Avenue.
- Vehicles will be detoured to 5th Street.
- Fourth Street is expected to reopen on August 16 as a single lane.
Please plan to use an alternate route when possible and expect traffic delays in the area during construction.
