Parking & Transportation Return to Campus

In preparation for the August 2 return to work date, Parking & Transportation Services is announcing the following key dates and changes for its parking contract holders.

Reciprocal

Many contract holders used extended reciprocity during the pandemic. Beginning August 2, PTS will start restricting access to ensure space availability.  The following changes will be made around reciprocal and off-peak parking policies:

  • On August 2,  extended reciprocal access to Washington Avenue Ramp and Church Street Garage ends. Only contract holders assigned to those facilities will be able to park there.
  • On August 31, extended reciprocal access ends for all other facilities. Contract holders will need to park in their “home” or historically paid facility. Regular reciprocity/off-peak parking privileges will be restored.

Suspensions/Refunds

Some parking contract holders suspended their parking fees. Parking fee suspensions and refunds will end on August 31. The final August credit will be issued on a September payroll.  Those keeping their contracts do not need to take any action. The payroll deduction for September will return to normal.

Cancellations

Employees wishing to cancel their parking without incurring charges in September need to cancel by August 13 and may do so by completing the Contract Cancellation Form. Those choosing to do so should be aware that if they need contract parking in the future, they may end up on a waiting list or in a different facility.

Waiting List

On August 16, employee contract parking waiting lists will resume. Employees on the waitlist should watch their email. Once notified of available parking, they will have a short time frame to accept the parking location offer. This process should allow many who will now choose to park on campus to move to a location of their choice.

Other Options

Those looking for options other than parking, consider these programs:

Part-Time Parking Program

Employees who need to park two or fewer times per week may want to consider the new Part-Time Parking Program. This program provides a fixed number of parking days at a reduced rate at select facilities. Learn more.

Metropass

Employees may want to consider the Metropass, the unlimited public transit pass for the Twin Cities region. Learn more about Metropass here. Metro Transit recently announced routes returning on August 21, 2021. Learn more here.

COVID-19 Contracts

In response to an unprecedented set of circumstances, the University authorized the distribution of temporary, no-cost parking contracts for University staff and faculty. These contracts will end on Aug 31, 2021
