August 6: The bridge will reopen the evening of August 7.
Hennepin County will close the vehicle level of the Washington Avenue Bridge beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, August 4. The closure is expected to last through 3 a.m. on Monday, August 11. This closure is necessary for a routine inspection of the bridge. People who drive on this road should plan an alternative route or follow the marked detours:
- Detour for westbound traffic: 4th Street SE (County Road 37) and I-35W.
- Detour for eastbound traffic: I-35W and University Avenue (County Road 36).
The Green Line LRT will remain open during the vehicle level closure. Metro Transit will close the Green Line track 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 17. Buses will replace Green Line Trains from Stadium Village to Target Field.
Pedestrian and bike access on the top level of the bridge will not be impacted. Bikes and scooters should continue to use the north side of the bridge, with pedestrians using the interior or south side.
