Exciting News: New 10-Passenger Vans
You may have noticed that our 10-passenger van category has gradually reduced from four vans to just two in recent years. This change was due to Ford discontinuing the production of 10-passenger vans. We’re pleased to announce that Fleet Services has received approval to upgrade to 12-passenger vans, with modifications to remove two back seats - keeping the capacity at 10-passengers to comply with University policy. As of today, we have 4 brand new vans available for rent!
What This Means for You
- Our two older vans will be retired from the rental fleet now that the four new vans have arrived and are ready for service. As these new vans are more modern and heavy-duty, they come with a higher price point, which will result in an increased rental rate for the 10-passenger vans. The daily rate will rise from $75 to $85. This rate change is effective immediately.
- While these new vans will offer the same 10-passenger capacity as our previous models, they are larger and more heavy-duty. To ensure all drivers are equipped to safely navigate these bigger vehicles, Fleet Services will require that anyone renting and/or driving these vans to complete a Large Passenger Vehicle Training course on Canvas. This policy change is effective immediately. If you have a 10 Passenger reservation already in place, Fleet Staff will be reaching out to you shortly to confirm you and all drivers enroll and pass the training before you pick up the vehicle.
- Self-enroll in the training course via the training hub. Fleet Staff will monitor course completions weekly and update your user profile with appropriate permissions to allow you to request and drive these new 10-passenger vehicles. NOTE: You will not be able to create new requests for the 10 passenger van class without passing training first.
This course is also available for any driver who wants to build confidence when driving larger vehicles like our cargo vans and trucks.

Kiosk Reminders
We are excited to offer our customers a convenient 24/7 option for vehicle pick-up and drop-off. To ensure a seamless experience, please review the following important reminders:
Before Using the Kiosk
You must validate your driver’s license with Fleet Services before accessing the kiosk. You will not be able to log in or use the kiosk until this validation is complete. To validate your license, please stop by the Fleet Office to show your license in person to Fleet Staff. Once validated, your access will remain active for one year or until your license expires - whichever comes first.
Kiosk Check-Out Requirements
You will need your U Card to access the building after business hours (available only to Twin Cities based students, faculty, and staff). Have your phone ready for Duo verification to log into the kiosk. If someone else is picking up the vehicle for you, they must have their own user profile and validated license. They will also need your 6-digit rental confirmation number to look up the reservation and collect the keys.
Pick-Up Timing
Do not arrive more than 1 hour before your scheduled pick-up time. Your vehicle will not be accessible for check out before this window. If you arrive more than 2 hours late, your reservation will be automatically canceled.
Parking a Personal Vehicle
If you are leaving your personal vehicle in our lot, please email [email protected] with your confirmation number, vehicle make, model, and license plate.
Returning Your Vehicle
As per Fleet policy, all vehicles must be refueled and cleaned (inside and out) before being returned, if necessary. A $25 refueling fee and/or a $50 cleaning fee may be applied at Fleet’s discretion or if reported by the next user. The returning driver will need both a U Card and phone with Duo to access the building and kiosk. Be sure to return the keys promptly to the kiosk. Failure to do so will result in continued billing until the keys are returned to Fleet staff. A $50 late fee, plus ongoing usage charges, will apply if the keys are not returned to the kiosk by the end of the rental period.
New Fueling Video Tutorial
We’ve added a helpful video tutorial on how to fuel your rental vehicles at our onsite pumps. You can view it on our YouTube channel and it will also be available on our Fleet Commander FAQ page under "How Do I Fuel My Vehicle at Fleet's Onsite Pumps?"
Additionally, we have a tutorial on checking in and out using the Kiosk, which can be viewed here.
