For the past 18 months the pandemic closed most downtown offices, employees teleworked from home. About one third of the workforce is now back at the office, more are returning on a staggered schedule this fall and winter. As much as COVID has had a devastating impact on us all, workers returning to the office will find some welcome improvements to their commutes. This webinar highlights the new programs and infrastructure that didn’t exist pre-pandemic. Improvements to make the “return to downtown” easier, faster, and more climate friendly. Join us on Twins Plaza (next to the Kirby Puckett statue) for the Grand Opening Celebration of the new Bike & Ride secure bike facility in Ramp B. Ribbon cutting at noon. Thursday, Sept. 23, 11 am – 1 pm: Car-Free MSP on Nicollet Mall
Bike, bus, or carpool to Nicollet Mall for a full block devoted to easy, affordable, climate friendly transportation. Adjacent to the Thursday farmers market, we'll be between 7th and 8th streets and Nicollet Mall. 
  • Nice Ride/Lyft: Scooter & E-bike Rodeo – Test a Lyft Scooter / Nice Ride E-bike for a free ride on a course set up on Nicollet Mall
  • Transportation Exhibitors – Talk to the transit, bike commuting, and carpool experts, and collect some cool swag!

On Saturday, September 18 from 8:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., the entrance ramp to I-35W northbound from Washington Avenue SE will be closed for road maintenance work. 

I-94 west will be closed between Highway 280 and 25th Avenue S beginning Wednesday, September 15 through Wednesday, October 6 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. every night, including weekends, for MnDOT repairs to the 25th Avenue bridge.  The Huron Boulevard I-94 west on-ramp will also be closed.

On Monday September 13 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., join a Bird Scooter event at the Superblock in the north meter parking lot (between Centennial and Territorial Halls). 

Attendees can try out scooters for free and win helmets.

On Wednesday, September 8, come see electric cars, an electric motorcycle, an electric bicycle, an electric lawnmower, a solar boat AND MORE. Meet owners. Ask questions. IDRIVE event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. between Coffman Union and Washington Avenue. Learn more:

University of Minnesota Parking & Transportation Services (PTS) invites you to join us for our Annual Transportation Fair on Tuesday, September 7 - the first day of fall semester classes - in front of Coffman Union.

Thousands of students, faculty, and staff visit this event each year to ask questions about all modes of transportation: busing, biking, walking, carpooling and driving.  Learn more about:

  • Traveling to campus from the city or the suburbs
  • Getting around on campus
  • Exploring the Twin Cities
  • Going home to neighboring states

This is an excellent opportunity to talk to experts about specific transportation questions, concerns and opportunities.

MNDOT has announced two closures of I-35W entrance ramps.
- I-35W south entrance ramp from University Avenue SE will be closed from 7 p.m. Saturday, August 28 to 11 a.m. Sunday, August 29.
- I-35W north entrance ramp from Washington Avenue SE will be closed from 6 a.m. Saturday, August 28 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 30.

Welcome Week kicks off the introduction to the U for new freshmen coming to campus.  For 2021, to help move everyone around, Campus Connector buses will run additional hours during Welcome Week.
