Spring Brings Back Shared Bike & Scooter Program
Friday, April 29, 2022 - 10:24

Warm weather brings new travel options for the University of Minnesota’s Twin Cities campus.

The University has entered into license agreements with three operators —Lyft, Lime, and Spin — to operate a Shared Bike and Scooter Program.

  • Approximately 400 shared scooters and 150 bicycles are deployed around the Twin Cities campus. These numbers will be adjusted to meet demand.
  • To promote equity, students and staff who qualify for aid through FAFSA and reduced fares through Metro Transit’s Transit Assistance Program will have discounted rates.
  • To promote safety, operators will host outreach events on safe riding and proper parking behavior. Riders are reminded to avoid riding on sidewalks and to park properly at campus bike racks to avoid penalties.

“The shared scooter and bike program is one way that the University is reducing its carbon footprint,” said John Mark Lucas, transportation programs manager for Parking & Transportation Services. “By offering active and gasoline free options, we hope to improve health and fight climate change.”

Students and staff can sign up for service with each of the operators by downloading their apps in the Google Play Store or Apple App Store or by visiting their websites:

The bikes and scooters are currently on the Twin Cities campus in Minneapolis and will soon be stationed on the Twin Cities campus in St. Paul.
