Parking & Transportation Services (PTS) is installing new hardware and software at gated parking facilities on the Twin Cities campus. The upgrade includes a new validations program that uses the HUB software system called Janus World for Merchant (J4M). Read about the project and see a timeline estimating when each facility will be ready to accept J4M validations.
The new J4M validation program replaces prepaid coupons, departmental coupons and budget charge cards. Authorized personnel use the university’s J4M website or app to issue validations, monitor use, and create reports of activities and charges. eStatements will show validations charges, as they currently do for prepaid coupons, departmental coupons and budget charge cards.
Do you have old prepaid coupons?
If you have any old prepaid coupons, please fill out the Prepaid Coupon Refund Request Form to request a refund to your EFS chartstring.
- Log in here and follow directions to request a Shop and J4M Merchant account.
- Receive an email from PTS containing your Merchant Account credentials and login instructions.
- See Getting Started in J4M for Merchants to learn more.
A Shop is the EFS chartstring to be charged for parking. Each EFS chartstring to receive charges requires a separate Shop configured by PTS. Each Shop is managed by one Merchant.
Each Shop is managed by one Merchant, but a single Merchant can manage more than one Shop. PTS recommends a Shop’s Merchant be an employee with knowledge of the UMN's Chart of Accounts. The Merchant is responsible for all Shop activity and charges.
Merchants can create Clerk accounts and limit their authority. With Merchant authorization, Clerks can apply validations and report on their own activity.
The Merchant or Clerk uses the J4M website or app to apply a validation to the entry ticket. The parker presents the validated ticket at exit. See Applying J4M Validations for details.
Replacing Budget Charge Cards
Budget Charge Cards are being phased out as Twin Cities parking facilities are updated with new equipment. Departments can offer a similar service with J4M validations. See Budget Charge Cards to J4M for details.
Four validation products are available to all Shops at all J4M facilities: Full, Daily Max, Half Day, and First Hour. Charges to customers and departments depend on the rate in effect when the parker entered the facility. Some facilities charge a flat daily rate and others calculate the rate by the hour. Rates at many facilities change during evenings, weekends, and early-morning hours. See PTS parking rates for details.
Think of each of these validation products as the maximum amount the department is willing to pay.
|Name||Parker Pays||Department Pays|
|Full||The parker pays nothing||Dept pays in full (100%)|
|Daily Max||The parker pays any cost over $13||Dept pays up to $13 (Daily Max)|
|Half Day||The parker pays any cost over $8||Dept pays up to $8 (~4hr of parking)|
|First Hour||The parker pays any cost over $3||Dept pays up to $3 (~1hr of parking)|

Frequently Asked Questions
Our department has prepaid coupons on hand. What can we do with them?
Why are budget charge cards being phased out?
Although budget charge cards (BCCs) look like contract keycards, they serve as coupons, as they are a method of calculating the public price of a parking stay and sending the charge to a departmental EFS chartstring. With J4M, departments will create and use individual validations as needed. BCCs will continue to be accepted at facilities until the new equipment is installed. Once you can no longer use your BCCs, return them to PTS for secure disposal.
Where can I still use my budget charge card?
What do we do with our old budget charge card?
Return old cards to the PTS office for secure disposal. See the address at the bottom of this page.
Where can non-Merchants view information about validation uses and charges?
Which facilities accept validations?
What is the advantage of a ticket scanner?
Use of a ticket scanner is recommended where the volume of tickets to be validated is high and parkers stop at a staffed location, such as a reception desk. A scanner quickly reads the ticket and automatically enters the number into the J4M system, producing the validation.
Why would a Merchant create a Clerk account?
Merchants can delegate to Clerks some or all responsibility for validating parking. The Merchant can monitor Clerk activities from the J4M Dashboard and by running J4M reports.
Can my department have more than one Merchant?
Yes, your department can have multiple Merchants as long as each Merchant is assigned to a different EFS chartfield string. There cannot be multiple Merchants assigned to the same chartfield string.
What do I do if my Clerk credential is not working in the app?
Occasionally, when the app is downloaded, the server points to a European site rather than United States. The server line should read us-iot-prod.janusworld.net. If it says "eu-iot-prod.janusworld.net", click once in that field for the ability to change it. For most people, correcting this fixes the problem. We are working with the vendor to get rid of this issue.
